AICHR | Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights

What is AICHR?
AICHR, or the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights is a regional human rights body. It is regional because it is specific to a certain region - the South East Asian Region which is composed of the following member states: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam .

What is the goal of AICHR?
The goal of AICHR is to improve the lives of its citizens in its member states, in economic, political security, and socio-cultural aspect. The establishment of AICHR aims to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms. Recently, AICHR has drafted the Asean Declaration for Human Rights which, although bombarded with a lot of intrigues and lack of support, has set the framework for human rights cooperation in the region.

Not everybody knows that AICHR exists. Each member state of the ASEAN has a representative who will serve for 3 years. To know more about AICHR, visit aichr.org.
